At the beginning of this project was a conversation between the artist and his mother, recorded during the final weeks of her life. The original record of this recording had months of public life, played and replayed throughout the exhibition Elsewhere, on Record. Gradually the vinyl accumulated the sounds of its own circulation: surface noise, wear, interruptions, and glitches. Childhood memories, fragments of place, of war, and the rhythm of ordinary conversation drift through its grooves. Now part of the record itself, these marks and imprints reveal what only adequate exposure to light makes visible.
